An Update from Pastor Kenny
Canton, GA, April 29, 2020
Canton First United Methodist Church Family:
Throughout the last several months many of us have referred to this season as an “unprecedented time.” As we navigate the next several weeks, we are carefully evaluating when and how to safely reopen. We thank all of you for your continued patience, support, and understanding as we plan and implement safe reopening practices in response to Covid-19. The safety and well-being of our church family and community is of highest priority.
Church Reopening Task Force and Tentative Dates
We have received notification from the Bishop and Cabinet of the North Georgia Conference advising all United Methodist Churches in the Conference to continue online services through June 22. Therefore, we will not hold on campus in-person worship services until at least June 28. This reopening date is tentative, and we are continually monitoring updates and available resources from local, state, and national governing officials in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In response to a tentative reopening date, a Church Reopening Task Force has been assigned to conduct a thorough review and provide recommendations for the development of a CANTON FIRST UMC REOPENING PLAN IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19. The goal of this task force is to ensure a reasonable and responsible plan is in place for the reopening of our church campus with consideration of the available resources from the CDC, Governor's Office, Federal Government, City of Canton, and the UMC North Georgia Conference Office.
Continuing Initiatives to Stay Connected
We will continue to hold two online worship services every Sunday, those of which include the 9:30 a.m. Modern Service and the 11:00 a.m. Traditional Service. We are exploring additional ideas to make the broadcast more reliable and stable and are actively looking to improve the online worship experience. If you have questions or feedback regarding our online worship services, please contact our leadership team and we will be happy to discuss.
Additionally, we are offering several new opportunities to grow in your faith during this season. The first opportunity is to participate in our 42 Days of Prayer. Every day until Pentecost, our church family is receiving a daily prayer email written by one of our pastors or retired pastors to address the pandemic, help us grow in our faith, and use this time for our good and Gods glory.
Please participate in the 42 Days of Prayer and share them with your family and friends. The 42 Days of Prayer can also be found on our website here and is updated daily. You can also view the daily prayer on our Facebook page at @cantonfirstumc. If you are not signed-up to our online mailing list, please contact Anne at the church office at (770) 479-2502.
The second new opportunity to participate and grow in your faith is through the launch of our 8-week Online Virtual Small Groups (12 people or less) where we will read the Book of Acts, focus on personal growth, and ask questions about our faith. Canton First COVID-19 Relief Fund in Partnership With MUST Ministries
You are invited in the coming days to participate in the Canton First Fresh Hope Fund in Partnership with MUST Ministries to help address financial issues that our community is facing as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Every amount donated to the Fresh Hope Fund will be used to help individuals in our local community who have been affected by Covid-19. We will provide additional information on this initiative in the coming days.
If you have any additional questions, please contact or or call the church office at 770-479-2502.
